“State v. Tilton and State v. Formica — the case behind ‘Parker’s Law’”
As a municipal prosecutor, Anthony J. Vecchio tried the case against Christopher Tilton and Nicholas Formica, who were convicted in 2016 of endangering the welfare of Parker Drake, a young man with autism, after they dared him to jump off the Manasquan jetty into the freezing ocean and posted video of it online. The case drew national and international press coverage and led directly to ‘Parker’s Law,’ signed by Governor Chris Christie in 2016, which made endangering the welfare of a developmentally disabled person a crime punishable by up to 10 years in prison.
